Understanding Allegan County Releases
A release from the Allegan County Sheriff's Office & Corrections Center means that the county jail episode ended. It does not always mean the person walked into the community with no further restraint. Bond, time served, dismissal, a court order, sentence completion, or probation may lead to community release. A transfer may instead place the person with the Michigan Department of Corrections, another jail, a federal agency, or immigration authorities. Death can also end a roster entry. The receiving agency and the legal authority matter as much as the disappearance itself.
The county's official inmate lookup is limited to people currently in custody. Once a name leaves that list, the Sheriff's release or movement record is the local evidence. A court file can show the bond, dismissal, judgment, or sentence that authorized a change. OTIS applies only when Michigan corrections took jurisdiction or supervision. A current-roster absence alone cannot distinguish those paths.

Allegan County Release Types
Read the release type before deciding where to search. “Bond” means the person left pretrial custody subject to court terms. It does not mean the charge was dismissed. “Time served” usually reflects sentence credit or completion, while probation can leave court supervision in place. Parole follows a state-prison term and continues the sentence in the community. A transfer ends Allegan custody but begins or continues custody elsewhere.

Dismissal, acquittal, and sentence completion are court outcomes. The physical release still depends on processing and any other valid hold. Confirm both the legal authority and the custodian's movement entry.
Allegan Release Record Fields
An Allegan County booking and release file ties the end of custody to the correct booking event. The Sheriff's retained inmate jacket can include intake and booking cards, the mug shot, bonds, prison-transfer documents, and an inmate release form. Ask for the existing record and named fields rather than asking staff to create a narrative.

A court register of actions and judgment explain the legal case, while the jail record documents the custody movement. For a person sent to MDOC, OTIS and MDOC records supply the later prison, parole, or discharge history.
Note: Ask for the movement destination when available because an Allegan County exit may be a transfer rather than community release.
Request Allegan Release Records
The county accepts written requests through its FOIA and JustFOIA process. The Sheriff's coordinator handles police reports, photos, videos, and similar agency records. A focused request reduces identity mistakes and helps staff locate the existing release form.
- Give the person's full name and approximate booking date. Add a date of birth or booking number when known.
- Ask separately for the booking sheet, release or movement entry, release date and time, release type, nonexempt destination, and booking photograph.

Michigan's local law-enforcement retention schedule says inmate jackets, including mug shots and release forms, are retained until release plus ten years. Retention does not guarantee disclosure. Juvenile, sealed, medical, victim, security, and active-investigation material may be restricted.
Michigan Law on Allegan Records
Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., provides access to nonexempt public-body records through a written request. Under MCL 15.235, a public body generally responds within five business days by granting, denying, partly granting, or using one extension of no more than ten business days. That is a response deadline, not a promise of complete production within five days. Lawful labor, review, redaction, and duplication charges may apply.
A set-aside can remove a conviction from public criminal-history systems. It does not make every related arrest or jail document available, and disclosure still depends on the law governing that record.
The 57th District Court holds misdemeanor and early felony records. The 48th Circuit Court holds felony judgment, sentencing, and circuit probation records. Court copies come through the clerk process, not the county's executive FOIA portal. Juvenile files require separate treatment and may be confidential.
Note: A FOIA response deadline is not the same as a guaranteed date for receiving every requested release record.
Bonding Out in Allegan County
Allegan County identifies three bond-payment paths: the south-side Bond Lobby kiosk, a phone payment at 866-422-6833, and ExpressAccount. The 57th District Court sets and accepts bond and begins every adult criminal case. Payment can authorize a pretrial release, but processing and other holds still control the actual departure time.
A bond release is not an acquittal or case completion. Read the district docket for later hearings, disposition, and any amended bond order. If the name disappears from the current roster, a Sheriff movement record or MI-VINE custody event can help distinguish release from transfer.
When Allegan Releases Occur
The county publishes a specific rule for a scheduled sentenced release. A person with a secured ride may be picked up at midnight. Without a ride, the person remains until 10 a.m. Pickup takes place through the Bond Lobby, where the visitor uses the intercom and follows the door instructions.
Those times do not govern every bond release, immediate court order, medical movement, or transfer. They are local instructions for the scheduled situation described by the county. The physical exit should still be confirmed with Corrections when timing matters.
Note: The midnight and 10 a.m. times apply to the county's stated scheduled-release pickup situation, not all Allegan releases.
Getting Home After Allegan Release
The 10 a.m. no-ride rule is a transportation safeguard. Allegan County explains that it avoids sending a person into the community during the middle of the night without a ride. No official fixed bus or taxi connection from the Bond Lobby was identified, so transportation should be arranged before the scheduled release when possible.
Allegan County Transportation publishes general county service information, but its route and booking terms must be checked directly. A caller should not assume a jail pickup is available. The Corrections Center can confirm the release door and processing status, not promise transportation.
Allegan Jail Booking Scale
The Sheriff's 2024 annual report records 3,822 bookings and an average daily population of 153, compared with 3,673 bookings in 2023. These numbers show workload and population, not the number of people released.
The distinction matters because a current-only roster can change often without creating a public archive of prior entries. A booking count must never be relabeled as a release count.
Find a Released Allegan Inmate
Start with the system that last held the person. Allegan has no official 24-hour or 72-hour release feed, so the live county roster cannot supply a historical list. The Allegan 24-hour release fallback explains the same-day route, while a named-person search follows these steps:
- Search the county's current lookup with the complete last name. A match means the person is displayed in current custody; no match is only a lead.
- Check MI-VINE for a custody event and call the Corrections Center when release versus transfer matters now.
- Search both Allegan court levels. District records cover bond, misdemeanors, and felony preliminaries; circuit records hold felony judgment and sentence.
- Use OTIS only when MDOC prison or supervision applies. Read status, location, Date Paroled, earliest release, and maximum fields together.
- Use BOP or ICE tools for a federal transfer. If no public system resolves the event, request the Sheriff's release or movement record.
A released person normally leaves Allegan's current roster. Absence can also mean transfer, a data correction, a search mismatch, or an update delay.
OTIS Search for Allegan Releases
The Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS search covers people currently or formerly under MDOC jurisdiction or supervision. It is the right public system after an Allegan case leads to state prison, parole, or qualifying felony probation. It is not a history of people whose only custody was the county jail.

Read the status first. PAROLE and PROB usually mean community supervision continues. DISCHRG means MDOC no longer has jurisdiction for that sentence, though discharge can also follow reaching the maximum or death. ABSCOND1 and ABSCOND2 are not lawful discharge. Date Paroled records an actual past parole release, while Parole Board Jurisdiction Date is an earliest eligibility field.
The official OTIS screen shows the Allegan release search starting point. It should be used only for the state-corrections path.
The available filters help narrow identity, but MDOC still advises confirmation because status, location, and dates can change.
Note: OTIS can omit an Allegan jail-only case because MDOC never had jurisdiction over that county custody event.
No Allegan Recent Release Feed
Allegan County does not publish an official recent-release list for 24 hours, 72 hours, or another period. Its lookup says that only current in-custody inmates appear. It provides no release archive, post-release retention promise, or stated update schedule. Comparing old roster captures cannot establish when a name disappeared or whether the event was community release.
The reliable fallback is MI-VINE, a narrow call to Corrections, the district and circuit court trail, and a Sheriff's FOIA request. OTIS applies only after MDOC involvement. No official Allegan sheriff mobile app offering recent releases or released-person mugshots was found.
Allegan Supervision After Release
Parole, probation, and discharge are different states. A paroled MDOC prisoner has left prison but remains under sentence conditions. Probation comes from a court and can follow an Allegan jail term or replace prison. Discharge ends the relevant MDOC jurisdiction. OTIS shows PAROLE, PROB, or DISCHRG when its coverage applies.

Property After an Allegan Transfer
Property stays secured during Allegan custody. On an ordinary community release, it is returned through the facility's release process. An MDOC transfer is different: only limited property can accompany the person. Remaining items require an authorized Property Release Form and pickup within 30 days of transport, or the county says they may be destroyed.
This rule helps explain why a transfer should not be treated as a routine pickup. Family members should confirm authorization and the deadline with Corrections rather than assuming the person carried every item into state custody.
Two Allegan Courts Track Release
The Allegan court trail splits between the 57th District Court and 48th Circuit Court. District Court starts every adult criminal proceeding, sets bond, resolves misdemeanors, and conducts felony preliminary work. Allegan Release Alerts and Transfers
MI-VINE is a free custody and court-event service available through VINELink, its mobile service, or 800-770-7657. A county-jail registration can report release, transfer, or escape. An MDOC registration supplies general-release notice. Transfer is not community release, and VINE is not a permanent archive.
For federal prison, the BOP locator may show a release date and “Released” or “Not in BOP custody” status. That wording can include release to a detainer. ICE's locator primarily covers current detention and may include some people released within a recent period. A no-result cannot prove release. USMS pretrial custody has no equivalent public historical locator, so the federal docket or responsible facility may be needed.
Note: A federal or immigration transfer ends county custody without proving that the person returned to the community.

Allegan Fees at Release
The Allegan inmate guide states a $20 room-and-board charge for each housed day for sentenced residents, including pre-sentence days, against a stated statutory maximum of $60 per day. It also identifies exemptions, including people held only on an MDOC parole detainer and specified Diverted Felon or Swift & Sure participants.
Remaining trust-account funds may be applied to the balance at release. Unpaid amounts can proceed to collection or civil action unless an arrangement or hardship waiver applies. This is an account procedure tied to custody, not proof of release status. The facility should confirm the person's own calculation and available review process.
Allegan County Release Facilities
The Allegan County Sheriff's Office & Corrections Center is the adult county jail. Its release record, MI-VINE, court files, and phone confirmation form the adult local path. The Allegan County Youth Home is secure juvenile detention under Family Court. Cheever Treatment Center is a court-ordered juvenile residential program, not an adult jail. Youth placement, transition, and court records have confidentiality limits and must not be routed through adult lookup or mugshot procedures.
