Where Corrections Center Releases Go

The Allegan County Sheriff's Office & Corrections Center is the county's main adult custody site. Leaving it can mean several different things. A person may return to the community after posting bond, receiving a court order, or serving a county sentence. The person may instead be transferred to the Michigan Department of Corrections, another county jail, a federal custodian, or an immigration authority. Only the first group has been released to the community. A transfer ends the local jail stay but does not end custody.

The county's current inmate lookup shows people who are presently listed in the Corrections Center. It is not a release archive. When a name disappears, the roster alone cannot tell whether staff processed a community release, completed a transfer, or are updating the entry. A court order may authorize release before the physical exit occurs, too. Those events should be checked separately.

A narrow call to the Corrections Center can clarify whether the exit was a release, a transfer, or an event still being processed. For lasting proof, the Sheriff's release or movement record and the court docket are stronger sources. MI-VINE may show a custody-change event. Confirm an Allegan County Release

Start with the system that held the person, then follow the movement. The county lookup accepts a complete last name and can be narrowed by first name and booking date. A current match means the person is still displayed in Allegan County custody, though a fast-changing status can lag. No match does not establish release. Use the next sources to separate release from transfer and to obtain a record tied to the correct person.

1. Search the current county lookup using the complete last name. Add the first name or booking date when common names create several results.
2. Check MI-VINE for the same person and agency. A custody event can support the timeline, but confirm urgent facts with the holding office.
3. Call the Corrections Center at 269-673-0500. Ask whether the person was released to the community, transferred, or remains in release processing.
4. Review the relevant MiCOURT case record for bond, dismissal, sentence, or release-related orders. An order explains legal authority but may not show the exact physical exit.
5. Request the Sheriff's booking and release or movement record through county FOIA when written confirmation is needed.

If the answer is an MDOC transfer, use the Offender Tracking Information System, known as OTIS. Search by MDOC number when available, or by a full or partial last name. OTIS covers current and former state prisoners and several MDOC-supervised groups. It is not a history of people whose only custody was this county jail. State intake and public updates can take time, so a newly transferred person may not appear at once.

Read OTIS status before relying on a date. PRISON reflects state custody. PAROLE means release from prison into supervision, while DISCHRG means MDOC jurisdiction for that sentence has ended. Date Paroled records an actual past parole date. The Parole Board Jurisdiction Date is an earliest eligibility date, not a promised departure. If another jail or a federal authority received the person, confirmation belongs with that custodian instead.

Corrections Center Release Records

A phone answer can resolve an immediate status question, but a written county record is the durable route. Allegan County accepts public-record requests through its FOIA request process. The Sheriff's FOIA coordinator handles reports, photos, videos, and similar Sheriff's records. Ask for the booking sheet, release or disposition fields, the release date and time, the release type, and any nonexempt transfer destination. Give the person's full name, approximate booking date, date of birth, or booking number when known.

Phrase the request so it distinguishes a community release from a movement to another custodian. Asking only for a “release record” may miss a transfer form. Electronic delivery and a fee estimate can also be requested. The court docket should be checked alongside the Sheriff's record because the court may show the order or disposition that authorized release, while Corrections staff document the physical exit or movement.

Bond is one example of this split. The 57th District Court sets or accepts bond and begins every adult criminal case in Allegan County. Payment can occur at the south-side Bond Lobby kiosk, by telephone, or through ExpressAccount. Posting bond permits pretrial release under court terms. It does not show that the charge was dismissed, that the person was acquitted, or that a sentence ended.

Corrections Center Release Timing

The county publishes a specific pickup rule for a scheduled release after a sentence. When the person has secured a ride, pickup may occur at midnight. Without a ride, the person stays at the Corrections Center until 10 a.m. The county explains that this later time avoids putting someone into the community in the middle of the night with no transportation. Pickup takes place through the Bond Lobby. A visitor uses the intercom, then turns and pulls the handle as directed.

This rule should not be stretched beyond its stated setting. It does not promise that every bond release, urgent court order, or transfer will occur at midnight or 10 a.m. A bond may depend on payment and processing. Allegan County Sentence Credits

Eligible sentenced prisoners who follow facility rules may receive one day of county jail good time for every six days served. The local rule is consistent with MCL 51.282. Good time is a credit against an eligible county sentence. It is not a release list, and it does not set the release of a pretrial detainee who has no sentence to calculate.

A projected date based on county sentence credit can still require confirmation from the Corrections Center and the sentencing court. The legal sentence, time already credited, rule compliance, and any other lawful hold can affect the actual exit. State prison release rules are separate. A person transferred to MDOC is governed by Michigan's state sentence and parole framework, not this county credit rule.

Property After Allegan County Release

The Corrections Center inmate guide states that personal possessions remain secured until release. An ordinary community exit and an MDOC transport differ in a practical way. Only specified items may accompany a person transferred to state custody. Other property must be released through an authorized Property Release Form and collected within 30 days of the MDOC transport. The guide says unclaimed property may then be destroyed.

Family or another approved person should follow the facility's form and pickup instructions rather than assume all belongings traveled with the person. The property deadline also can help explain why an MDOC transfer needs prompt follow-up even when OTIS has not yet updated. Contact the Corrections Center about authorization and collection before visiting. Property handling confirms neither the final court outcome nor a community release, but it is part of the documented transfer process.

Corrections Center Release Proof

The strongest Allegan County confirmation combines sources that address different stages. The jail record shows booking and physical movement. The court record shows the legal order, bond action, disposition, or sentence. MI-VINE can mark a custody event. OTIS applies only if the person entered MDOC custody or supervision. None should be made to answer a question outside its scope.

For a fast check, ask Corrections staff whether the person returned to the community or went to another custodian. For a lasting file, request the Sheriff's release or movement record and save the relevant court entry. If state transfer is confirmed, allow for intake lag, then match the person in OTIS by MDOC number or commitment name. That sequence avoids calling a transfer a release and gives the most complete account of what happened after the person left the Allegan County roster.
